Card skimmers and shimmers are the devices used to steal information from cards. Skimmers are typically attached to the outside of card readers, like those found at gas pumps or ATMs, to capture data from the magnetic stripe. Shimmers, on the other hand, are inserted inside the card reader slot to collect data from chip cards (EMV cards). Card shimmers work just like card skimming devices except, instead of reading the magnetic strip, they read the card’s microchip.
