Physical Appearance:

• Size: Typically 13–16 inches (33–41 cm) in body length, with a 5-inch (13 cm) tail.

• Weight: 1.5–4 pounds (0.7–1.8 kg), with males generally larger than females.

• Body: Long, slender, and flexible, built for burrowing and squeezing into tight spaces.

• Fur: Soft and dense; common colors include albino (white with red eyes), sable, black, chocolate, and silver.

• Face: Pointed snout, small rounded ears, and expressive eyes—often with a “mask” marking.

Behavior & Personality:

• Curious and playful, often likened to kittens in behavior.

• Very social animals that enjoy interacting with humans and other ferrets.

• Known for “ferret dancing” (the war dance), a spastic, joyful movement when excited.

• Tend to hoard small objects, hiding them in secret spots.

Habitat & Care (in captivity):

• Domesticated ferrets are usually kept as pets.

• Need plenty of enrichment, safe play areas, and secure cages when unsupervised.

• Require a high-protein diet, often based on meat or specialized ferret food.

• Sleep a lot—up to 18 hours a day—but are very active when awake.
